I have owned 4 aeros three were manuals and my 95 was Auto box. it was a good Aero but not very exciting The manuals were fine and exciting but shifting became old had in Dallas traffic at 5-7 pm. If this car is for the wife get the Auto - change the oil at 15K intervals, drive it hard and it will hang in there for at least 150K miles. ( I drove the stew out of my Aero Auto and it was just as good, at least driving at 75k miles when it was totaled) I did not care for my 97 because it had no traction control like my earlier three, but it wouldn't be a good females daily driver in the manual config. Most failures are from lack of care, overheating oil and failure to use good sense by the driver. The Saab ZF does require a little patience shifting from Neutral or reverse to drive - wait until the box sorts its self out before you punch it. They also require a short warm up before trying to pull stumps at traffic lights. Clean the screen well everytime you service the oil look for any foreigh stuff. if you find any metal - trade it!
