Hi John N, I have a 91 9K, bought it in '98 w/90k mi. Now has 145k mi. It's the most basic model - not even an "S" - no sunroof. This gives great headroom and no leaks. The Heat/Vent/AC system in this model is Old Time Saab - very basic - no problems w/controls but a leak in the heater core & it will have to be replaced sometime. I have had really good luck w/the car and repairs are basic & easy... mostly. New shocks, struts, alternator, A-arm bushings, ball joints, brake pads, cv joint boots, mufflers. Still on Original Clutch!!

The scary things: They all seem to need a new Direct Ignition Cassette, and connector harness - easy to replace but pricey, $300 to $400 for cassette & harness & 10 min to install. AND the 1991's and maybe 1992's used an UNTEMPERED steel crank sprocket for the balance chain. I just replaced mine. The teeth were worn to the point that the chain just slipped over the sprocket and put the balancers out of phase about 60 degrees - much vibration. Debris from the old teeth also went thru the oil pump and toasted it - OIL PRESSURE LIGHT ON!

So the Sprocket is about $40, but much work to get to it, and a new oil pump, balance chain, balancer sprockets, timing chain as long as it was right there, and head gasket.

BUT I love the car, and now it should make it to 300K mi EASY! And what '91 car dosen't need a little TLC? If you like to do your own work, you should enjoy one.

Good Luck!
