Folks,
I would appreciate your help here... This is my 3rd 9000... However, this is my 1st '93.
Background:
1993 5 door, 5 speed, Turbo, 4 cyl./2.3 litre engine.
Symptoms:
TCS indicator light along with "limp mode" after start-up. Never fails during driving - only intermittently at start-up.
What I am doing about it:
Shutting the car off and restarting after 5 minutes does not clear the "fault". The only remedy is to disconnect the Negative lead on the battery and wait 3-5 minutes before re-attaching. After this minimal time duration, the car starts up just fine and may continue to do so with variable frequency. There appears to be no "x" number of start-ups that cause a failure. My mechanic suggests that it could be the throttle body or possibly the TCS computer - I have seen the computer go bad on my '92 9000 and when it does, one is in perpetual "limp-mode" until the computer has been replaced.
I must admit, the throttle body component is a new wrinkle in the equation for me - any ideas???
Your collective help is very much appreciated here. I am currently 300+ miles from home with this malady and am rather apprehensive about the return trip this Saturday (4/6).
If any of you have a brainstorm... kindly respond!
Thanks in advance,
~Chris
