The amperage rating of the alternator, 80 vs 115 amps, reflects how much current it can produce. Either one produces the same voltage, so there is no danger of damaging the electrical system. Think of it as putting in a larger capacity battery.
The 115 amp alternator fits into the same space as the 80 amp. I just did this task on my '88 about a month ago. I'm not sure about the reference to the pulley - the rebuilt Bosch alternator I bought from Sobstory came without a pulley, so I swapped the old pulley over.
I noticed a major improvement with the larger capacity alternator. OK, the previous alternator wasn't in great shape before it upped and died, but there is a noticable difference with the 115 amp. Sitting at a stop light idling, with headlights, seat heater, blower motor, and rear defroster on, the voltage on the EDU drops from 13.8 volts down to 13.5. With the old 80 amp alternator, you'd see it drop down into the mid '12 volt range.
Happiness is a stiff electrical system. Get the 115 amp.
