Yes the fan may be drinking a larger than normal current draw but it doesn't blow fuses so it probably OK. You should do a voltage check (running, fan cycling, headlights off then on, cabin fan off then on) at these points: Battery, fuse of fan in box by battery, and at the fan if you can get to the wires with a needle probe (seal pricked hole with RTV). This is all for good information as what most likely happened was the alternator couldn't keep up with the demand at the time. Were lights on?, blower on? Battery may be getting shallow as it didn't act as the resivor that it should be and the alt. may be getting weak as it was slow to come up to the challenge. Look at batt age, over 3 yrs get a new one/ cheap insurance. Do you get a solid 14.2V on battery after motor startup and charge up? Is there a steady 13.8 after battery is recovered? Car shut down: Batt V?, turn on lights and cabin fan-batt V? Shouldn't drop below 12.2V /// 5 minutes after initial load down.
