I have read in car mags, Consumer Reports, and pamphlets from tirerack.com that you should not put anything on the sidewalls of the tires (ie.: tire dressings). Tire manufacturers put special compounds on the walls to protect the rubber from the u.v. rays of sunlight, as well as to help against dry-rot. Putting on these dressings strip away these protective compounds.
I don't know how much truth there is to this, but I have read it in numerous places.
Kind of bums me out since I, as well as everyone else, like the look of shiny tires.
Also, watch out for certain brands. After awhile, they leave the tire brown, and it is difficult to remove.
