Interesting--Saab used to say do not use synthetics in the engines(at least in the US manuals). Saab in England was recommending synthetics in turbos years ago. Now Saab puts semi-synthetic in the engines at the factory--and says OK to use full synthetic.
Saab used to say not to use synthetic in manual transmissions. Now that they put synthetic in at the factory, and have it in bottles labeled Saab, it is recommended for older models (but only Saab fluid!)
I've been running AMSOIL synthetics in Saabs for years and years, starting with the engine and manual transmission back in 1978. Have been running the synthetic ATF since it came on the market, starting in my 1976 Saab 900 5 door. Of course, a seal did go out on the tranny after some 200,000 miles. And son-in-law didn't check the final drive in his (synthetic in there too) and it ran dry--that one had 200,000 on it. My 85 900T only has 185,000 on it.
The benefits of synthetic oil have been shown for almost 30 years now.
