I agree partially with Steve's analysis. Yes, if you have a dragging caliper, the engine has to work harder and will run warmer. But I don't agree that's why you'll see the temperature gauge higher.
First - the cooling system is designed to keep the engine at a set temperature. If the engine is working harder, the cooling system will compensate (thermostat open, cooling fan come on, etc).
Second, a dragging caliper will make the engine work harder, but not that much harder that you'll see it on the temperature gauge. If the caliper is dragging enough to actually load the engine, then all that energy is going somewhere - into the caliper. If the caliper were dragging enough to load the engine, the caliper will shortly be glowing cherry red and you'll see lots of smoke from that wheel.
Unless you're driving around with smoke pouring out of that wheel, I don't think you'll see it on the temperature gauge. About half way (needle horizontal) is normal - below that is actually a bit cold. It may be running warmer because it's getting warmer outside, or the thermostat was stuck open before, and is now working properly. If the thermostat is more than two or three years old, replace it.
And fix that caliper! If it's just dragging a little, it won't make the car run warmer, but the caliper is getting hotter, even if it isn't smoking. That extra heat will cause the caliper to fail - either you won't have a brake on that side when you need it, or it may stick badly when you use the brakes, and you'll get the Big Smoke scenario.
Good luck!
