that is a Saab specialist. Some dealers don't seem so forthcoming.
The fan is a maintenance item, and prone to failure. It is also a pain to replace, and costs ~$500 when that happens. They are also normally fairly noisy when they first kick in, because they are blowing so hard. If you buy the car there is a way to program less fan, which preserves fan and hearing.
You have a major maintenance coming up at 65,000mi. If the dealer or an indi does all of the work, expect to spend $500-700. You can do much of it, but still good to have a go over by experienced Saab mechanic.
If you are inclined to work on your own car, this is the right format for you. Lots of wisdom and experience on this board. Also a wealth of info in past postings, which are accessable through the search function at the beginning of this board.
Have I emphasized a good mechanic who specializes in Saabs? That is the guy you want to inspect your car, and work on it later. If you don't know of one in your area, ask us, or look at mechanics listed on this board.
Great car, by the way. Expect to have more maintenence than with a Camry, but there are a lot of these cars with 200,000mi+ out there that are still going strong. The '97 is a good year too, and 5sp is the way to go.
