The 4 locking tabs are only on the top and bottom of the box (2 each).
The easiest way I've found that does not require access to the rear of the box is to first insert a fingernail or plastic knife into junction along the top center edge of the box where it meets the dash fascia. The top of the box can then be easily pressed down from the top to clear the two friction tabs on the top of the box (the plastic is quite thin). The box can then be tilted forward slightly and pulled out. However, at this stage it is also sometimes necessary to insert a fingernail or plastic knife along the center of the bottom of the box edge and lift up (about 1/4") as well.
