Replacing the rear brake splash shields?

The rear brake spalsh shields (I'm not really sure what they are called) on my '92 9KT have virtually rusted away. As I am about to replace rotors and pads, my questions are, do I need to replace the shields or can I get along without? Does anyone know of an after-market source or are they a dealer only item? Thanks for any advice.
