unbelievable difference front shocks Posted by adam [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I did my front shocks and strut mounts today. Not nearly as difficult a job as I thought. It was actually pretty easy. Removed the first strut in about 30 minutes and then about another 45-60 minutes for transfering the spring and reassembly. The second side was a little faster.
The Haynes manual is right on. My old front right shock was totally blown it wouldn't recoil more than an inch out of the housing and my left one was better but very very soft compared to the new ones. I was pretty much riding on springs. I had 221k on them but was passing the bounce test, so I don't really know what that test is worth. Things are nicer now and my car rides noticable higher.
The biggest lesson I learned, remember the strut mount goes on the strut before you secure it with a nut and release the springs not after. Also make sure you have brake parts cleaner on hand because the rotor is going to get greasy.
I also took the opportunity to paint the springs. I went with crome cause it was all I had and I was too lazy to bum a ride to buy something else, but I really wanted red.
