My 9k stranded me last night! At least I can reliably state that the ECU requires 8V to run the car.
As you may recall, I was rear-ended last Friday. I didn't drive the car at all over the weekend and it seemed fine Monday. Tuesday AM I noticed that the voltage displayed in the EDU was below 12, indicating that the charging system was not charging, and upon startup the battery idiot light was dimly lit until I revved the motor a couple of times. So, I knew it was going to be a problem, but I pressed on to work anyway. Going home the voltage dropped quickly from around 11.5 on startup to the point where it ran out of enough juice to run the car. I got a new battery and installed it, and the car was fine! Charging was good, EDU showed 13.4 volts which is what it normally showed pre-crash. OK, I turn off the headlights because I know that there's an electrical problem somewhere and the voltage drops to 11.8! Grrrrr..... Something was knocked loose somewhere in my crash. Oh, well. I'll have a rental today until it gets fixed or scrapped.
