and I found haynes mostly useless. My AC wasn't working and I ended up removing the evaporator housing as well as the blower motor housing. If you do it this way you (1) don't have to remove the wiper motor and the plastic shield just below the winshield and (2) don't have to mess with the intake manifold at all.
You'll need a cresent wrench to loosen the unions at the AC evaporator housing though.
After you remove the false firewall try to locate the small metal guide that's bolted to the bottom of the aquarium right behind the butterfly valve(4 10mm bolts). This piece holds various hoses traveling from the dashboard to the engine. If you don't remove this the blower motor won't come out (it took me two days to figure this out).
I didn't really understand the topology of everything until I pulled a blower motor out of a car at the junkyard. I coend this to you if you don't understand what's where.
