During our hot spell last week I realized that the a/c on my 88 9kT was not working. I assumed that it was just low on R134a (it was converted a couple of years ago) and this was borne out witha pressure reading of around 20PSI (vey cheap gauge so I'm not sure how accurate it is). I emptied an 11oz can of R134a into it but still no joy.

I forced the clutch of the compressor to operate by applying 12 volts directly to it (I know, I know...... I really shouldn't do that) and everything worked fine. I think I have enough refrigerant in now, but somehow the compressor clutch does not seem to be getting the signal to energize it. Can somebody give me some help troubleshooting this? I have done a lot on this car, but have usually left the a/c system to the pro's - but given its age I figured I would have a go myself this time.
