Anders, The car is an auto. I took some of the antifreeze/oil mix to my mechanic. He said it was oil. Before I started tearing everything apart I took the tranny dipstick and marked a white piece of cardboard. Of course it was red. Did the same thing with the oil ring that was left in the antifreeze drain pan. It was brown. One thing I didn't try was mix antifreeze and ATF together to see what color it was. Red and Green does make brown, hmmm. I wanted to check the timing chain anyway since it is a 91. The balance shaft crank sprocket looks in good shape though. I may have just tore the engine apart for no reason. At least I will have nice/clean engine parts when I'm done. And it has been a tremendous learning experience. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I could work on a Saab when I bought it.
I'm also replacing the radiator because of the age of the car and if by chance it is the ATF leaking into the radiator. Plus after taking off the upper rad hose a piece of the neck broke off. When it rains it pours.
Thanks for your help.
