Concerns about the longevity of the turbo vs. non-turbo B202 engine (in the classic 900) are unwarranted. Even in the turbo version, 160 hp is such a modest output for that design that it still lasts forever. The transmission usually needs rebuilding a little sooner in the turbo versions, but that's not a concern so much for a car with 85K miles on it.
As for getting an older 900S, I've put about 150K miles on an '87 900S (16V), and after getting over the fact that it had more power than the VW Rabbit it replaced, I've always wanted more power. The 900 Turbo is a far better value, especially if you can find a low mileage one.
