Two fixes Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Ahhh! S.O.S. Cooling fan will not shut off!!! Help!!!, AeroHead ![]() |
The problem is the fan time delay relay is bad. This relay keeps the fan running for up to ten minutes after the engine is shut off. But these relays have been known to fail, and they keep the fan running until your battery dies.
Two fixes - you can replace the relay with another of the same type. This requires no wiring changes, and quite frankly, the relay went 6 years before it failed, so the same can probably be said for a new one. Just open the relay panel in the engine compartment, and swap it out. Yes, you'll need to go to Saab to get a new one.
Second fix - do this:

Saab decided the relay was a reliablity issue (something about irate owners with dead batteries), so they came up with this fix. You replace the time delay relay with a regular one (somewhat cheaper) and add a wire or two. No big deal.
I recommend you do the second fix - a little more work, but should prevent this problem from recurring.
Good luck!
