running. Of course its ok. An airplane engine would have these done at certain hour markers to eliminated a one point landing. ( Can really screw up how you were gonna spend the rest of you life) I'm an electronic tech now but grew up farming with John Deeres, International Harvestors, Caterpillars (used to ride and sleep next to dad on the bench seat of a Cat 35 as he spring plowed), and New Idea equipment. Dad was one of the best mechanics I have ever known. If there is peening and peel back of drive faces then they are past time for replacement. Not cheap, but the best insurance to keep the expensive big hunk of iron with the round things that go up and down and that bent up thingy that goes round and round still goin'.
