Well, it's done. Converted, sealed, running and chilly. We'll know how chilly when I hit Texas later this week.
Replaced Compressor, Dryer, Expansion Valve, high side hose, o-rings, flushed, filled, etc. Had the shop evacuate and charged myself.
Just have a quick question re: pressures - With A/C on high, engine idling, the compressor and fan running, I get about 30psi low side and about 150psi high side. Ambient in my garage is about 70 degrees. Fan off, high side runs up to about 225psi before the fan kicks in. Pressure switch kicks in at about 45psi low side, goes off at about 25psi.
Does that sound about right? I keep thinking it should have a little more pressure, but I'm being VERY cautious here.
Otherwise, it was all pretty straight forward, I think, though somewhat nerve-racking the first time around. The shop did re-seat one flare fitting (low side compressor fitting) when doing the evac, but otherwise no leaks.
Thanks for the advice on Friday, especially Robert Kaplan. Lots of great tips, and I used almost all of them. AND I now have lots of new little gizmos, like a 2oz. oil syringe and a combination garden sprayer/flush gun (actually, I had the sprayer, but who knew it also worked as a flush gun?).
Thanks again all,
If you want to know more, send me mail...
