Here's what I was thinking (and why)...

I want to get all-season tires because I'm not particularly concerned about having ultimate performance and it seems that there are plenty of "ultra-high performance all-season tires" out there that will give me 9/10ths of the performance anyway (OK maybe 8/10ths). The point is that I rarely, if ever, push my car hard enough for it to matter.
Originally I was thinking about the Dunlop SP5000s, but at $100 each at Tirerack they're still somewhat pricey (I'm Poor). Then I see the Sumitomo HTR+ tires for $87 which ostensibly compete with the Dunlops on all levels. They really seem like a bargain (360/AA/A, W speed rated and 11/32" of tread) and good customer survey ratings.
The problem is, the only size that they come in (that would fit) is 225/50/16. I currently use 205/55/16 Toyo Proxes FZ4 and they don't rub at all. They have the same overall diameter as the 225/50/16 Sumitomos (24.8"). The difference is that the Sumitomos when mounted on the 6.5" wide Aero rim would be 1/2in wider overall (9" as opposed to 8.5" for the Toyos).
Perhaps I'm being naive, but I'm thinking that this .25" on either side won't make any difference. Furthermore, if it came down to it, I wouldn't be opposed to cutting a little slot in the fender liner if the tire does end up rubbing when making a sharp u-turn or whatever.
Any Thoughts?
