Aero Head

I have a 97 Aero. Some months back I was foolish and let my head overheat (blew the head gasket and did not pull over fast enough). My mechanic replaced the head with a refurbished head he had in stock. I was concerned about making sure that is was an Aero head. I was told there is no difference - the part number was the same.
Well, the car has not been the same since. It is quite anemic. I brought it back to the mechanic for a follow up. They checked the cam timing and did not find a problem and suggested that the car runs like a normal Aero (if they only knew). I asked them to follow up with additional research on the possibility of a head difference (e.g., cam difference) and my last communication with them was that they found out there might me a slight head difference, but it would not affect performance.
Can someone shed some light on my problem? Thanks ahead for the feedback!
