Depends on the faceplate...

Most faceplates these days, for button illumination, use surface mounted LEDs. Alpine may be an exception to this, but they too may have finally went to SMD LEDs, also. These don't simply unscrew and you pop in the new one. It's just as it sounds, they are surface mounted, meaning the LED just sits on top of the circuit board in the faceplate, and is soldered on each side of it. Apparently they aren't too hard to remove and replace, with the proper tools (famous last words). However, they were sufficiently small and numerous that I 'paid' a friend of mine at work to change the 19 SMD LEDs on my faceplate from red to green. :) Just a few though, should be no sweat.
Another option would be simply buying the whole faceplate. Some of them cost an absurd amount of money, but for older decks, you might be surprised at how cheap is the entire faceplate. Still, it will be many many times the cost of the LEDs alone...
Good luck!
