The radio hookup is tricky. The radio slips into the metal cage in the dash, with the special connector at the back. The metal cage actually has an amplifier built into the back of it.
I have two recommendations - either fix the radio/amp, or go aftermarket. You can send the radio back to Clarion, and they'll fix it for a fixed fee. Last I checked it was about $80. But I've run into the radio squeal problem before, and it isn't always the radio. It's a problem with the power amplifier, and that's not part of the radio. To test this, try unplugging one speaker at a time. Start with the speakers in the back, because the connections are easy to get to. If unplugging one speaker makes the problem go away, then it's probably the amp, not the radio.
If you go aftermarket, then rip the whole thing out - amp and equalizer. Frankly, the equalizer just takes up dash space and makes for pretty moving pictures, but it isn't very good. IF you get an aftermarket radio with LINE OUT and LINE IN inputs, you can wire the equalizer between them. Crutchfield may or may not have harnessing.
Good luck!
