to Quasi's amazingly comprehensive guide. One is hoses - a couple failed on my new-to-me '93 car at only 80k miles, so we replaced the lot. For information they were the top hose and one of the hoses to the heater.
Second is electrical corrosion of wiring, which caused me violent overheating the second night I owned the car. The fan didn't run when it was supposed to. A previous Saab of mine caught fire after an electrical fault (at 183k miles, let it be said).
As with any used car, there may be no warning of what is about to fail, even if you take a long test run. My pulley went at 78k and I had to be towed. My automatic gearbox went at 113k (last week) and I had to be towed. In between, I've had thousands of happy and rapid miles and don't regret buying the car one bit...
