there was nothing wrong with the Saab. It was a driver error--- I just parked in a stupid place almost a 40 degree nose down position and it put so much strain on the parking pawl that it didn't want to release sort of like really putting on the park brake! sometimes you really have to grunt to get it to release.
As to your question, any time one has to work on a ZF gear box it almost requires a mortgage of the home. Don't panic if the gear box was working fine until this I suspect the problem is external to the box. Maybe the small bolt at the bottom of the shifter is jammed. I really don't have enought information to help yu so I'm shooting in the dark. does the shifter move at all? does the release buttons seem to have good spring resistance? if you try to move the shifter can you discern any movement of the teleflex cable at the bottom of the shifter? if you look on the back of the transmission can you slightly move the gear selector arm at all?--BE CAREFUL HERE IF YOU DISLODGE THE PARK POSITION THE CAR COULD ROLL OFF ON YOU. last night i suggested you disconnect the teleflex from the selector. AGAIN BE CAREREFUL HERE YOU MUST START THE CAR FIRST SET THE BRAKE SECURELY BETTER HAVE SOMEONE ELSE IN CAR THEN SLIP THE CAR INTO GEAR AND DRIVE IT TO THE GARAGE. sounds like you may have some moxie as far as mechanical - I would tear into the shifter lever see if problem isn't in there first.
