This is somewhat hard to explain. There is a gritty noise coming from the transmission during deceleration. With any throttle applied there is no noise. Immediately upon lifting the throttle, with the engine slowing the car down, a noise occurs which sounds like "sloppy gears," like rubbing with a lack of lubrication. It is clearly audible with the windows closed through the bulkhead.
The noise is related to engine speed, NOT road speed. For example, at 4000 rpm it sounds the same in 1st, 2nd, or any gear. There is NO sound with the car in neutral or with the clutch disengaged. I checked the transmission oil and it was full and looked crystal clean.
The noise seems to be slowly getting louder; it certainly wasn't there a few months ago. I'm wondering if I have a failing bearing in the transmission. This is really starting to worry me, I cannot affford a transmission failure!
What can I do to diagnose this problem?
Thanks in advance.
