Good price, if Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How's this price for a used '97 M/T?, Joe98, Wed, 15 May 2002 12:59:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That's a good price for a low mileage box. But since the car is long gone, you are taking a risk - namely, how do you know the tranny works?
If the car is gone, I have to assume it was an accident. Was the tranny damaged in any way? Obvious abuse to the tranny case would be a dead giveaway, but the case may have been stressed in a crash but not show dents/cracks (yet).
With no car, can you be sure of the mileage? If it's a case of 'trust me' by the seller, can you trust him/her/it?
Remember, you're going to put a decent amount of labor into this. It would be nice to know the tranny worked before you found out that you have to (1) pull it out, and (2) find another one.
Also, in a conversion job, it's really nice to have a donor car to supply all the other goodies - linkages, pedals, clutch hydraulics, shift lever. And silly stuff, like a shift boot.
Frankly, I would spend just a little more and get to a donor car, and strip out everything you need. I bet it wouldn't be much more, and would save you quite a bit in parts, or even in the hassle of running around.
Good luck!
