RussJ, what I have are the grey iron front discs, which are grooved. I have an idea that Trent Saab do a more sophisticated kit - I don't have this on my car.
I think the discs were worth paying the extra for, as I needed to replace my old ones anyway. I think they produce just as much dust as anything else, really - but I've tried Kevlar pads and so forth and feel the same way about them, too. They've done perhaps 20K miles and are perhaps half worn, on the basis that when the grooves are gone the discs are shot.
I occasionally get some brake noise, but not like I did with the EBC Greenstuffs. I currently run standard Saab pads, and never seem to run out of brakes (I have an automatic, so perhaps I use them more). However, Trent recommend Ferodo pads and next time I might try them. Hope some of this helps!
