master cylinder reenforcement plate manufactured

Today I finished machining the plate with which I'm going to stiffen the firewall around where the master cylinder sits. I have experienced a few problems with the master that were diagnosed as due to an old fatigued firewall. I actually saw the master cylinder move one day while a friend pumped the clutch - so I gues I believe the diagnosis. I found a piece of 12 gauge rolled steel about 4" x 6" and cut it up according to a cardboard pattern I made this morning. I've cataloged the progress I've made thus far at the site, http://www.physics.umn.edu/~nmoore/master_cylinder_repair.html
My next step will be refitting the master with the plate in place and then bleeding the system. My only worry is that the new plate will signifigantly abbreviate pedal travel which would mean thatI wouldnt' have enough "pedal" to fullt depress the clutch. I hope this is just a dream. If everything works out I plan to rivet the piece in place after bleeding.
comments are welcome.
