slow starter motor questions..87 9kT Posted by Andrew [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Yes I did a search and identified the 'starter' problem.
But I've dissasembled and reassembled my starter ( a '88 unit installed by a PO), cleaning and adjusting in the process.. when tested onna bench it works 'as advertised'... not as fast turning as other starters I've worked on though.. but there is NO obvious evidence of 'wrongness'.
In the car tho it's slow turning, nothing like the 900's starter..(when the car is cold) but the car starts instantly, when the engine is hot the starter barely works.. yes classic behaviour. BUT the darned thing is in pretty good condition generally, brushes have about 1/3rd wear, comutator is smooth and clean,
solenoid contacts are good, bendix mech is working well... no evidence of damage /wear. I've contemplated the "Ford" fix but is there any hope in adding another ground to the engine? or even to the starter itself?
