Hello John/everyone.
I just did a search on power loss problems and found your description to be very similar to my problem. I own a 92 9000S (134k mi). Please let me know if you were able to solve your power problem and how. Any insight would be greatly appreciated since I am currently battling this problem.
Thank you.
The following is the original post from John on Jan 15,2001:
I have a '91 9000T with about 150K miles. For the past couple of months, I have been experiencing power losses while driving, but I can't identify any particular pattern to their occurrences. Although, when they occur, they are usually the worst during the initial engine warm-up period, they don't always happen on a cold engine. Sometimes they happen after having driven on the highway for more than half-an-hour. I live in Colorado, and it has been cold lately, but the power losses don't really necessarily coincide with very cold weather. Thinking it might be a bad fuel source, I've tried changing fuel suppliers and have tried adding fuel dewatering agent to the tank. Neither of these things helped though. It happens at both low throttle and regular driving speeds. At its worst, the engine has died (preceded by low engine idle, lights dimming, etc), at its not-so-worst, I feel a momentary (usually less than 1 second) loss of power while driving (doesn't seem related to shifting, decelerating, accelerating, etc.). The times it has died have been when I'm not giving it gas (through a turn for instance, or idling down a parking structure ramp).
Any advice you could offer is appreciated!
John
