On the 88 there are screws behind the mirror switch on the drivers door or the plate in the same spot on the other doors. No need to take the mirror cover off, or to undo the manual door locks.. You did get the screw behind the courtesy light didn't you?
Heres the trick on the drivers door. You can't just pop the mirror switch out like the plates on the other doors unless you want to break it. Pull the knob off the left right selector switch. There is a small piece of black foam stuck in the panel under the knob. Pull out the foam with tweezers or needle nose pliers. Under the plug there is a small plastic tab. Push it foward (as I recall) and the mirror switch panel will pop out giving access to the other screw(s) The door panel should now lift up and off.
