PAG is the factory installed oil in many factory r134a systems. Ester oil is a better choice for a conversion because (as I understand it) of compatibility issues with remaining mineral oil.
The venturi pumps you refer to do exist. I have one that I bought at http://www.acsource.com. Harbor Freight has a really cheap one, but it apparently comes only with the r12 hook up, thus requiring an adapter.
