one problem solved, another a little worse

I installed new brake pads and rotors in the 9000 this morning - I noticed in my drive around the block afterward that the whump, whump, whump, sound is gone - I hope that was just a warped rotor. The surfaces of the old rotors were pretty grooved and the pads were really shiny - is this an indication that they were "glazed." They were ~ half the thickness of the new PBR pads I bought. Is this an indication that they weren't worn out? (even if they are still viable there's no way they're going back on the car) I bled the front brakes abfter installing the new pads and rotors and tried to bleed the back, but didn't have a wrench small enough to loosen the rear bleed nipple. oh well.
I also reinstalled the master cylinder plate I manufactured last week. I was initially concerned about the shortened piston travel that resulted from the placement of the stiffening plate between the firewall and master cylinder. To improve the situation I took the plate out and cut a hole in the middle of it so that the master could now mount to the firewall and the plate stiffen the area around the mounting point. The clutch now has full travel, but when I had my wife pump the clutch the cylinder again moves back and forth.
ARRRGGHH!
I secured the whole system with about 7 pop-rivets. I guess I'm going to have to take the plate out and weld something (I still havn't figured out what that will be.)
pictures of the setup are at http://www.physics.umn.edu/~nmoore/
a little better a little worse - can't complain too much.
