Hi everyone,
Recently I posted that that my wifes new 1993 9k cse (auto & TCS) was shifting hard/jerky/mistimed, besides that everything was fine and once in gear there was no slip or odd behaviour. Just the shifts were rough.

I was quoted a $100 adjustment and recalibration, my Saab guru did know what he was talking about. I did some digging on the Townsend site and looked under engine / TCS calibration. Here I found the FIX. The car shifts like butter barely perceptible and it shifts into 4th at about 45mph.

The fix was to adjust the kickdown cable at the point where it's sheath (metal) is attached to the bracket of the KDW motor that sits in the center of the car between the back of the engine and firewall.

STEPS
1)First I loosened the sheath clamp nut. Becareful that bracket bends all over the place so I found that w/ one hand using a socket w/ long extension I turned the nut and the other hand squeezed it down to hold the sheath to prevent as much bending as possible (its easy to straighten if you bend it w/ your hand and the socket w/ extension, it is really soft). Once loose I pushed the KDW lever to which the cable attaches all the way to the right wheel side of the car there is an intermediate stop that you push past (full throttle then kickdown feel for the 2 positions before you loosen the cable sheath and car off).
2)Once the lever is all the way to the right hold it there and push the sheath as far to the left as you can to remove all the slack. I was only able to do this w/ one hand (thumb pushing the lever and fingers pushing the sheathe) it is very tight area. Once all the slack it gone tighten the sheath clamp. Make sure bracket is striaght and square you'll know what I mean when you get there.
3)Now measure w/ Vernier calipers or something like that if you think you can be exact. W/ the car off push the lever to full throttle not past to kickdown and measure the cable from the sheath to metal nub. Then turn the car on in Park and when idling make the same measurement it should be much less. When you take the difference b/w the two measurements it should be 39mm +/- 1mm.
After this adjustment my car shifted like a dream.
Note you might want to make the measurments first mybe you're w/in specs and have another problem & double check the Townsend site for their explanation, i'm just giving you my 2 cents after reading Townsends info of TCS calibration.

Rob
