I agree, it does sound like an antenna problem. If you get absolutely no sound (static,etc.) then you might consider it to be a radio problem. However, if you have access to a multimeter, check for continuity between the outer shield and ground on the antenna jack behind the radio. You should have a ground there, also check between ground and the center pin, you should not have continuity there. If both those tests pass then check for continuity between the center pin at the radio jack and the antenna mast itself. If not, then BINGO, ther is your problem. Test again for continuity between the center pin on just the cable, from the front where it plugs into the radio, and at the other end where it plugs into the antnna. This will tell you if it is the cable or the antenna itself is bad. If, however, it passes all test, then it is your radio.
