57mm for the ATE calipers used on ABS cars, as opposed to 54mm for the non-ABS Girling calipers, according to the Haynes manual. So piston cross-sectional area, and hence piston force for a given fluid pressure is around 11% greater on the ABS calipers.
It is easy to check which calipers are fitted. The ABS calipers should have "ATE" stamped on them somewhere (mine do). I'm pretty sure I remember the front calipers on my '87 having "Girling" stamped on them. Now if they were changed, of course, who knows what might have been fitted.
I think this might be a bit of a wild goose chase...
