And I will add that yes your estimates DO sound really, really low. I've had simlar type of damage done to my 1991 CHEVY Beretta(POS)back in 1993 and that was easily about $2,000 at that time. I'm sure if it were a SAAB the cost would be TRIPLE! and that was 9-10 years ago also. Either how, that could possibly be used in your favor to get something NEW as most insurance companies will consider a car totaled and pay out as such IF the damage is roughly 75-80% percent of the cars value, if it's less they try and push to have it repaired. So, If a 1993 CSE is worth roughly $8,000 and I believe that your would be, at least the retail value of it would, then 75-80% of that equals about $6,000-$6,400. If you take it as others suggest to a REAL(read expensive, best in town)body shop, I'm sure they'll find the cost to be somewhere within this range. If they don't or can't, at least you've gotten it repaired by the best you could find. That said, if you still want the car(if it's totaled), you could always buy it back after the insurance company pays you out, for say $1,500 or less, then either rebuild it in your spare time using parts that have been sourced form a salvage yard, or you could part it out and sale every usable part and easily TRIPLE what you paid(that being the $1,500), how do you think salve yards make their money? Take your pick!
See Ya,
Phil
