Window Switch Contacts Always Dirty

About a month back, I removed the window switch cluster for cleaning. Of course, I made sure all the contacts were clean and in good shape. A few people mentioned using dielectric grease on the contacts to help prevent corrosion (yea, dielectric is non-conducting, but supposedly the metal-to-metal contact of the switch should displace the grease allow current flow). Anyhow, I reassembled the unit and a few of the switched didn't work. After a week or two, I took it out to find the contacts dirty again, VERY black. I cleaned them again and removed the grease, and put it back in the car. Now, the almost all of the switches are non-functional, especially in the "UP" direction.
What's causing this large amount of black stuff to build up on the contacts? How can I get the contacts to remain clean?
Thanks!
keith
