With two adult children and an active wife we have 4 saabs in the house. I like my 97 9000(H)pretty well although my 89 9000 (S) is probably best of the bunch overall considering also have a 99 9-5(W) and 2001 Estate (D). They are both (9-5,01E) just ok except the estate has best visibility of the lot by far. 9-5 is the worst of lot for visibility and comfort/utility. 89 and 97 are both 5 doors turbos with autos. 95 and 01 auto is probably better of the bunch at least smoother and maybe more reliable. The S and W is nice feature. 99 doesn't handle as well as either of the 9000s but unfair to say since power is about same as 89, not even close to 97 which is best in that department. 01 with 185 is pretty good and much better than 99 in power department and has turbo gage too boot. It has best utility of all Saabs owned but seats in newer cars aren't comfortable if you spend many hours a day in them 89 is better maybe because of design and type leather. Newer saabs have more bells and whistles but have lost the classic design look ---look just like any other Japanese car. Like the night panel and right mirror feature but the new cars just feel smaller in head room. Console is poor, rear suspension is noiser inside car. Tank sloshes when 3/4 full, seats in rear of 9-5s are worse than on 9000 seem considerably lower making less hip room for adults. Quality of the newer Saabs is better. - The 9000s are fun cars the 9-5s are transportation - that is about all the difference there is.
