Hi all....My 1991,9KT turbo has died (I think). At about 80,000 miles the turbo developed a high pitched whine on acceleration...dealer said it was the turbo bearings starting to go...well the car now has 167,000 miles on it and just recently the whine stopped and so did any boost. First question...what are the consequences of running with out the turbo working? Next question....is it possible that because the turbo is not working exhaust gasses are now giving the O2 sensor a false reading?Or perhaps the O2 sensor is toast? After running without the turbo for about a week the car now has on occasion a serious stalling, running rich (black exhaust smoke & heavy gasoline smell) and a check engine light. A short while later the engine will come out of this episode and run fine and then the check engine light will go out. I did recently replace the DI Cassette as testing showed one plug with no fire. Replacing the DI Cassette did smooth out an ignition skip but I'm not sure what's causing these stalling running rich episodes....any input sure would be appreciated. Thanks.
