'97 Aero. 34k miles.
I have always had a slight pull to the right. I went over this with local Saab shop some time ago and we left it, that we would revisit when I put on new tires. Now I have new tires but there is still a slight pulling. They rechecked alignment (again) which was the same as before:
(Front)Camber left -1.28 right -.43. Caster left 1.49 right 1.53 toe left .07 right .10.
(rear) Camber left -.36 right -.37 toe left .20 right .05.
They are saying that the camber (althought perhaps in-spec(?)) is excessive negative on the left (causing pulling to the right) and should be brought to -.5. Or to eliminate and 'natural' pulling from road crowning, perhaps even to -.25. So, they called Saab tech and Saab says loosen the frame bolts and move things. They tried to do this and were not able to move anything. So they said to me, take it to an alignment shop have those guys call them to talk first, and they will pay for it (this is in-warranty work since I had brought the matter to their attention earlier). I said, if they can do it why can't you do it and they said because they have better specialized equipment for alignment.
Now before I go to these other guys, tell me:
- is all this making sense, and are the new numbers what I want?
- should the rear be changed at all?
- why the he** isn't there a camber adjustment? What happened to the old 'shim' system? The only way to adjust camber is move the subframe? Sounds nuts!
- I would assume more (negative) camber is better, to a point. What's the recommended camber/caster/toe spec? Any reason to deviate from it, except for addressing the road crowning issue?
Sure would appreciate any help from you guys. Thanks!
