Chain tensioner and chain life?? Posted by andrew [Email] ![]() ![]() |
As an update I just replaced the 'old style' chain tensioner on my '87 9kT. According to Saab Guru these were supposed to be replaced under waranttee.. Some Moron Dealer 'forgot' silly, as Saab would have paid for this. Changed tensioner and all the goofy plastic cam oiler bits.. Saab never heard of drilled or even hollow cams?
Renewed Tensioner quieted down the Diesel sound (son's description) V nicely...not silent but certainly acceptable.
But what about the chain?.. the Saab practice of using what looks to be (but hopefully isn't) #35 single row chain dosen't inspire much confidence especially when one hears of chain replacements becomming far more common than they used to be (when Saab engines only had one cam and NO Rube Goldberg Balance shaft nonsense;-)... What is actuall life/mileage/duration in other's experience?? Yes I know there are some who even claim huge mileages out of their Autoboxes.. But for the rest of us, what's a realistic expectation??
