On this model, any check engine flashes you get when turning the ignition to on and not starting the car are generated by the DI/APC system. In later models, the Trionic does ignition and fuel functions, and uses different codes.
The book is at home, but I think that 3 flashes indicates a problem with the DI cassette or the spark plugs. 4 flashes means a problem with the knock sensor.
The fuel injection computer will also flash the check engine lamp, but only when you are in the diagnostic mode.
I'll confirm this evening that the code is the related to the DI cassette, or maybe someone else will jump in.
