boost/performance .. lack of ..problem Posted by Andrew [Email] (#1013) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Andrew) on Fri, 28 Jun 2002 11:51:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My(oops Son's) '87 9kT appears to be boosting lowish .. 1/2 into yellow. preseumably due to wrong fuel.. better fuel seems to help some.
The really annoying prob is that while 'test' driving the thing (basically wailing on it ;-) I found a severe 'flat' spot. Redlining in 1st and shifting to second as quickly /efficiently as possible inna Saab, produces a huge/long lived flat spot.. engine simply booooogs 'till it crawls up past 3krpms... gives new meaning to the word 'performance'.
Obviously there is a serious prob here... But everything I've looked at that seems related checks out as at least acceptable: no vac leaks, APC solenoid is OK electrically and seals ok, BOValve is nice'n tight, Fuel pressure unit does not leak, S.plugs are clean'n gapped, wires seem OK.
Engine does not miss.. just bogs pitifully.
Now I realize that this may not be such a bad thing for a foolish 19 ytr old.. But it's gotta work better than this.. doesn't it?
Can anyone suggest a methodical sequence to identify the problem source??
thanx
