A/C DIY fill protocol? (step-by-step)

I'm convinced I just need a recharge, so I got the cans of R134a and a buddy with the proper hoses. I don't know how many times he's done this so I wanted to get the step-by-step from someone who's done it on a 9000 (mine's a 94).
Where is the low pressure switch and the low pressure (fill) port? I've NEVER tackled the A/C before so I'm totally in the dark.
If the system isn't empty, how do I know how much I charge I need to add?
Thanks in Advance guys
Matt
