From looking at the old plugs, I'd say "lean mixture from time to time", it's not that they were grey/white all over. But emissions tester says "too lean by far": 0.01% CO (normally 0.1 - 0.3%)), 9.6% O2 (normally 7.1% max). The Saab dealer suspected the lambda sensor but that one's been replaced in March and works OK as far as I could measure.
Upon recommendations on this BB (thanx to all who contributed), I
- changed the plugs (NGK BCPR 6ES-11), gapped to 1.0mm
- checked and cleaned all electrical connectors under the hood
- checked all vac hoses/fittings/bushings (the one on the valve cover
needed some PTFE taping but fits firmly now)
- cleaned the throttle
- adjusted the throttle position switch
but did not achieve any significant changes. Funny things is, I do not get a "lean mixture condition" alarm from the Jetronic ECU (actually, it doesn't store any codes at all). The only things I can think of now are
- a weak fuel pressure regulator (jeez, how do I check that?)
- a faulty air mass meter
- a bad Jetronic ECU (aaaargh!)
Comes to mind: I still have a brand-new LH 2.2 AMM from my 87 2.9l turbo... it has the adjusting screw, so maybe it could help me. Can I swap this AMM with the 2.4.1 black plastic thing at all?
Once again, your help is mcuh appreciated.
TIA & cheers,
-fab
