Just as you I've figured out that it doesn't control the underhood light. That light has a swith already buit on to it. I think though that this switch is supposed to be like a sensor for the alarm system, in case somone opens the hood when they may be thinking of taking your car or perhaps doing otherwise to it. This wpould then sould the alarm. I really don't know for sure though cause although my SAAB has the alarm setup, it doesn't work. I'd really want the truth cause I'm just guessing.
