In 1992, SAAB went to a separate amplifier for the rear speakers and increased the total system wattage for 4x20 to 2x25 + 2x50 (i.e., from 80W to 150W). In order to use the later model head, you must have the rear speaker amp (located under the passenger seat) and the connecting blue banded DIN cable between the head unit and the amp. You will also have to run wires from the rear amp to the rear speakers, which means that you also have to have the appropriate amp harness connector. This connector also has power and ground connections for the rear amp.
Because the amp on the back of the head cage increases the depth of the unit, the radio can only be mounted in the bottom two dash DIN slots due to interference with the main heater/AC housing player.
You will also have to obtain a shorting plug for the red-banded DIN plug on the back of the radio cage to bypass the anti-theft protection circuit - otherwise the radio will not power up. (The factory CD player has this feature built into it so if you have one, you will not need this
plug - just plug the red-banded cable into the color coded CD player socket. Also, I'm not sure if the earlier (pre '92) CD player is compatible with the later radio wiring.)
